Covpress Gears Up For Growth After Chinese Takeover

Coventry-based Covpress International Holdings has been snapped up by a major Chinese automotive components supplier in a multimillion-pound deal.

The precision metal pressings maker, which employs 440 staff in the Canley district of the city and has a history dating back more than 120 years, is eyeing turnover of £90m within the next few years.

Though largely focused on the automotive market, Covpress also supplies other products such as satellite dishes and gas meter assemblies.

KEY automotive supplier Autodom has shut its doors indefinitely at three plants in Victoria and South Australia, sending 400 workers home. The plants, which supply metal pressings and moulded components to carmakers Toyota, Holden and Ford, said it had been forced to shut due to the slowdown in demand for local vehicles.

Metal Pressing Machinery - The Importance of Checking them Regularly

Recently in the news, a metal pressing company were fined £18 000 after an employee was nearly killed by a faulty machine. A Health and Safety Executive  found that the machine, built by the company 25 years ago, had no way of being cut off from its power supply (which is extremely dangerous). The employee was working on the faulty machine, thinking it wasn't working, so he leaned in to remove a faulty component. After doing so he inadvertently closed a circuit and the press operated. The employee was lucky to survive.
